Don’t panic!  I wasn’t in some kind of accident — at least not in the literal sense.  I’m talking about a “figurative” beaten and bloody head from banging it against the wall of failure.  Sounds harsh, but let me explain.

Yesterday I had a phone conversation with one of my closest friends.  Let me just say right now that I am SO GRATEFUL for that conversation in more ways than one.  She had an emergency trip to the hospital due to an allergic reaction and a near-death experience (blood pressure 50/36!!??) on Monday night that I just learned about.  I can’t imagine not having her in my life.  Another lesson learned:  put things out to the Universe and BE PREPARED for the answers you will receive.  :)

As a result of the remainder of that phone conversation, I feel like a HUGE lightbulb went on over my head.  Ever have one of those moments? For a very long time, I’ve been struggling with success.  In many areas of my life, I’m there — in another, it’s perpetually elusive.

Here is the revelation:  I’ve been trying to find the best thing for me to sell, when, in fact, I HATE SELLING!  Duh.

I come up with the ideas (or join the programs), put them into motion, set up all the structure, design wonderful capture and opt-in pages — everything is perfect — and just as I “knock on the door”, I shrivel into a quaking mass.  I can literally hear and feel the person breathing on the other side of that “door” … all my hard work has brought me to this point … and then I run away.

Since my friend has approached me many times about helping her build her business (each time I get excited about the opportunity and then fizzle), she asked me if knew why she kept coming back to me time after time.  Honestly, I HAVE wondered.

It’s because I have the strengths where she has the weaknesses.  All I have to do is BE WHO I AM and DO THE THINGS THAT I DO BEST.  I set up the foundation, and SHE does the SELLING.  Eureka!

No wonder the success I’ve been searching for has eluded me.  I’ve been trying to be SOMEBODY ELSE; trying to do what I see OTHER people doing — and in the process existing as just a SHADOW of my true self.

I’m a thinker; a dreamer; immensely creative.  I set up amazing systems and foundations.  I design awesome graphics, marketing pieces, and web sites.  I’m an incredible coach and motivator.

I’ll even knock on the door.  Though I’ll never say that I’ll never get there, for now, I’m the secret behind the success.  And I’m good with that.  :)

Are you a network marketing rebel who’s spent $$ thousands $$ on programs, courses, and systems to help you be successful? When one doesn’t work, or the next “big thing” comes along, you’re right there with credit card in hand.

Or do you worship at the feet of your upline with complete faith that the magic pill for your business success will come popping out of their mouths at any moment … so of course you don’t need anything more than those stone tablets of wisdom they share with you from time to time?

Yes, they are opposite extremes and, quite honestly, neither of them is going to get you where you want to be in terms of success with your network marketing business.

Of course, each program or course may teach you one new thing, and that’s good. But finding the holy grail for marketing your business and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, changing the way you think about YOURSELF and the success YOU DESERVE, could catapult you far beyond even YOUR wildest dreams.

I’ll admit that I’ve worn those “junkie” shoes in the past, and I’ve learned a bit from all of them. Maybe that’s how I can recognize the value in something that gives you all the pieces (instead of a shard here and there) — the mindset training, the marketing training, the * HOW TO DO IT * that nobody else wants to share.

Do you want your online marketing to be successful?  If your answer to that question is “yes,” then the answer to the title question must also be “yes.”  It’s that simple.

For example, let’s say that you want to generate your own, targeted leads through a Pay Per Click (PPC) campaign.  Let’s also assume that you only want to communicate with people who are interested in health and wellness, and specifically those who want to operate a home business with health and wellness products.

If you use general keywords like “network marketing,” “mlm,” and “home based business,” what are the odds that the people who respond to your marketing are interested in health and wellness?  I’d say the odds are NOT in your favor.

On the other hand, if you use more targeted, niche keywords like “home based health business,” or “vitamin business opportunity,” you’re much more likely to find those people who are interested in what you have to say (or sell).

Keyword research can definitely be tedious.  So what tends to happen is that most internet marketers get lazy and don’t do it.  And their results are often the proof of their laziness … poorly targeted leads that just end up wasting their time (something most of us don’t have enough of as it is!).

Take the time.  Do the research.  Your long-term marketing results will definitely be worth it.

Have Faith In Your Dreams

I’ve raised my children to believe in their dreams. Our motto here is “You Create Your Reality.” It’s something I live by, and no matter what circumstance I’ve found myself in throughout my life, everything ALWAYS works out for me. And I attribute that to two things: I believe that my thoughts (and subsequent action) create the life I live, and I NEVER give up on my dreams.

My oldest daughter, Caitlin, has been an artist from the day she was born, and her passion and goal in life is to have her own ceramics studio and sell her beautiful works of art. She is truly gifted. She attended two years of college pursuing that passion and decided last year to stop school and work full-time to earn the money to buy the equipment she needs to fulfill her dream.

Yesterday, Caitlin came over before an interview she had for an intern position at the GoggleWorks here in Reading, PA. The GW is a fabulous community of artists, gallery space, and more, and a wonderful place for someone to learn, grow, and network with like-minded people. We had a great conversation about creating your reality and never giving up on your dreams.

Today, Caitlin called to say that she got the intern position. :) So, on top of a full-time job, she will now be “working” (is it EVER work when you’re doing what you love?) in the ceramics studio at GoggleWorks for 20 hours a week. That’s a lot of hours per week. She’s walking ten feet off the ground.

I’m sure I don’t even have to share the moral of this story.

BE YOU. DO SELF. NEVER, EVER GIVE UP.

It seems so simple when you say it, because doesn’t it just make sense? If you want to be successful in business (e.g. your network marketing business, internet marketing, or even a brick-and-mortar business), and you’ve got mentors who are willing to teach you, it’s kind of a “no brainer” that listening to their advice and then DOING what they teach will certainly move you forward if not lead you to raging success.

I have several coaches/mentors who have taught me the ropes, and I STILL listen to what they have to say. I don’t know about you, but I kind of LIKE success. :)

If you’re a marketer like me, have you spent any time surfing the web and taking a look (I mean a real, hard look) at all of the people out there trying to sell you their “system” and trying to convince you that their system works because they’re “making TONS of cash and so can you” if you just follow their system. And they work really hard at that convincing part … maybe a bit TOO hard.

Does their pitch draw you in? Motivate you to action? For me, I can’t click away fast enough. I mean, who ARE these people? The majority of them have sites (or MySpace profiles) that tell you absolutely nothing about who they are — it’s all one huge sales page, flashing banners and all, for their product or opportunity.

I don’t know about you, but the people I’m drawn to are the ones who are authentic; who tell me about their struggles and their triumphs; who are givers; who offer value; who just simply let it all hang out.

One of the hardest lessons to learn, especially when you’re trying to make your mark on the world, is JUST DO YOU. Master SELF. By being your*SELF* you attract those you really want to work with — and you bring joy and peace to yourself and others.

Marketing Under Fire

This is a repeat post from May 24, 2008, since I lost my previous blog and had to reinstall! …

Well, today I was in the “hot seat” with one of my fabulous mentors, Jeff Schwerdt, while he rummaged through all of the internet marketing pieces I have out there — videos, capture pages, opt-in pages, affiliate marketing stuff, my network marketing business, programs I’m promoting, my blog, my personal page, etc.

It sounds like a lot, and it IS.  Lots of pieces that needed an expert’s input in order to pull things together so that I can actually make them work FOR me and not just have them taking up my time.

Basically, my biggest takeaway is that there’s too much going on, so I will be choosing just two areas to focus on:  #1 - the thing I’m most passionate about (which is my primary network marketing business / health and wellness) and #2 - the thing that will bring in the most money (although it’s also something that I’m very passionate about … which is helping others be successful … and it’s also Jeff’s creation!).

I learned a lot, and I’ll be taking some massive action on his recommendations in the next few days in implementing the necessary changes.
